Complexity and Political Decisions

Project
Understanding complex decision-making and the use of heuristics by incumbent politicians

Summary
Recent studies have shown that the use of serious games is effective in promoting the development of cross-disciplinary skills that enhance understanding of complex systems. Furthermore, microworlds provide a unique opportunity for training, as they enable trial-and-error learning in controlled environments. This project uses serious games for the development of a dynamic decision-making training tool in complex political environments aimed at public decision-makers, including elected officials, political advisors and public office-holders. The integrated training tool is deployed through i) a videogame application for dynamic decision-making, and ii) an interactive dashboard that provides real-time tips and feedback to the user to encourage the development of their future cross-disciplinary skills, particularly in complex system thinking.
