Project
Plateforme numérique au service de la gestion et du suivi des commotions cérébrales
Summary
Sports-related concussions are considered by public health agencies in the United States and Canada as a silent and alarming epidemic (Ellemberg, 2016) with between 1.6 and 3 million concussions reported annually in the United States alone (Langlois, Rutland-Brown, & Wald, 2006). In nearly half of the cases, the concussion management protocol is not correctly applied by athletes or their professional entourage, highlighting the need for concussion assessment and management tools that involve not only health professionals, but also the individuals in the athlete's circle (parents, teachers, coaches). The research project aims to develop a digital platform including not only a fun, engaging, and sport-specific assessment tool for users, but also information and assistance tools to evaluate the signs and symptoms associated with concussions, plan a return to play, and identify the steps to take in the event of a suspected concussion.
