Interactive learning and cognitive training

Cognitive training is seen by many researchers and practitioners as a way to push the limits of human cognition. Other researchers are more cautious and raise conceptual and methodological concerns about the possibility of enhancing cognitive ability through training. Research in this area aims to establish the potential of new training approaches and to clarify the limits of cognitive training. The combination of new technologies such as simulation and virtual reality is a promising avenue for optimizing the effectiveness of cognitive training, especially in terms of its transfer to other cognitive tasks. Immersive and playful simulations help maintain learner engagement during training while allowing the reproduction of complex and dynamic environments with a much higher ecological validity than the traditional experimental tasks typically used in cognitive training studies.
